Player Safety Reminder:
Carpooling is good for the player and good for the parents - and SAVES GAS MONEY!
The BAYS geographic group of towns runs basically from Winchester down to North Attleboro – so our two towns frame the northern and southern borders, basically. Someone has to be on the northern end! This does mean in some brackets our teams have a few games with longer drive times. Think of this as an opportunity versus an economic (i.e. gas), time or social challenge!
Our experience running a lot of travel teams over many seasons is these travel games are the most fun. Why? One word: Bonding. Parents and Players!
One of us drove by the car driving a group of girls last week (the car has a load of parents) –and when we went by them – the girls were absolutely in a doubled over fit of laugher over something…who knows what. You just cannot replace that – the fun of soccer takes many forms – and happy players contribute to making good and successful players. Longer drives actually make this situation more likely to arise.
So next time you are about to say – “Coach, we will meet you at the field” – think twice. Carpooling from a location like the Swim Club or VO parking lots – is definitely the way to go. Save money too!
Pile the kids into a couple of cars – and even more challenging get the parents into just a few too! Designate someone, give the coach a break, to just organize this stuff. It is easy – and well worth the effort!
-- The Ombudsman Committee (Jan Koss, Tom Schneider, Doug Darby, Joanne Baldini and JD Hale, Chair) for the Winchester Soccer Club
WSC Coach Mentor Program, which is offered to all Sandlot age groups, pairs up WSC’s volunteer coaches with the highly trained, professional coaches from Mass Youth Soccer Association. This unique program was highlighted in the recent edition of Mass Youth Soccer News, the state-wide soccer publication, as well as the Winchester Star.
