Sandlot (In-Town) Program

Sandlot is fun, small-sided, team-oriented soccer for younger players attending Kindergarten through 2nd grade.  Sandlot includes grades K through 2, also known as U6 through U8.  All of the players who register for Sandlot will be placed on a team.

Sandlot players are placed on teams that meet each Saturday during the season.  The sessions run for between 60 and 75 minutes, varying by age group.  The sessions start with a warm up and practice followed by games with other Sandlot teams.  The teams train as a unit and are coached by volunteer coaches.  Professional coaches, acting as Coach Mentors, are available at each session to recommend activities and to assist the volunteer coaches with the session.

Spring Season 2009 Dates:

The Sandlot season will start on Saturday, April 11th and will run for 8 weeks, ending on June 6th.  There will not be a session on Memorial Day Weekend.

Uniform/ Equipment Information:
All sandlot players must come dressed to play each week with shin guards, sneakers or plastic cleats (no metal), black shorts, and soccer socks covering their shin guards.

Players must also wear the WSC reversible game shirts (available at T Michaels;

free to all first time sandlot players).  Players should also bring a filled, labeled water

bottle and a labeled soccer ball.  U6, U7 and U8 use a Size 3 and U9 use a Size 4 soccer ball.

Sandlot Teams:

Teams are put together by the Age Group Coordinators with the goal that the teams are balanced and have a few players from two or three different schools.  Age Group Coordinators will contact coaches with team rosters approximately one week prior to the start of the season.  Coaches will then contact the players on their teams in the week leading up to the first game.

Players move from team to team each season giving players a chance to play and learn from different coaches and to play with a variety of children.   Coaches also get to know more of the players in the age group.

Sandlot Coaches:
Many different age groups still need coaching volunteers and we encourage you to get involved.  No previous experience is necessary.  Professional coaches are available at each session to provide you with a session plan, offer assistance and to answer any questions.  We also provide coaching equipment; soccer balls, pinnies, cones, etc.

If you are interested in coaching, please contact the appropriate Age Group Coordinator. Coaches, please see the Coaches Corner of the website for additional coach training opportunities and resources.

Inclement Weather:

If the fields are closed or Sandlot is cancelled due to bad weather, information will be posted on the website and on the field status hotline as soon as possible.  AGC’s will also contact the coaches who may send an email to their teams.

If the weather is threatening, check the field status hotline (781-440-6501), the website and your email before heading out for a session!
